When I met Master Paul Schroder, I was working out in a popular fitness gym in El Paso, Texas. My best friend at the time, Willie, as well as myself, were more concerned about looking like big monsters. We lifted weights daily, took all the latest supplements, etc. Willie and I were pretty cocky bouncers from the most popular club in town, and we LOOKED GOOD! We were working out one day, us two over-grown Chicanos, and we saw a pretty tall white guy lifting smaller weights than us, and we were making our little comments about him, snickering a little bit. Mind you, Willie and I were pretty big humans at the time. Unapproachable as they come. To our chagrin, this guy comes up to us, SMILES BROADLY, offers his hand and says, "Hey guys, nice to meet you! My name is Paul Schroder, and I teach Kung-Fu San Soo. Would you guys like to come try a class man?" His grip when I took his hand was a little like a C-clamp, without its merciful nature. I was taken a little off guard, and he presented us with VIP passes to his studio.
We show up to his studio the next day, and upon his first class to us, I ask, "What would happen if someone my size grabbed you by the neck?" His reply was, "Well, come grab me by the neck and we will see!" So I eagerly get up, grab him by the neck, and was swiftly escorted to the ground. Shortly followed by my wits.
"TEACH ME MASTER!" May have been my next response if it weren't for the knee ride to my mouth that happened next, BUT it did follow the knee ride. In short, MASTER PAUL SCHRODER RULES! I mean that, not because I have been under him since I was literally under his knee that night, but because he made a believer out of a me at a time when I needed that to happen to me. He is a great martial artist, businessman, teacher, and most of all, FRIEND! I love that guy! Anyone looking for a great school, like the Taco Bell commercial, "Make a run for the border!" El Paso, Texas is where it is at!
P.S. I am NOT saying he is better at Kung-Fu San Soo than anyone else; I am just saying that his San Soo is great, and the way he passes it on is great. That's all! _________________ "It's a Street Fighter's art. I teach the art of walking away...one way or another." |
