As to Huo Lao-Shi's martial arts system. His family's system (which they were quite famous for, as they ran a bodyguard service) was Lost Track Boxing, Mizongquan (迷蹤拳).

Huo Lao-Shi, however, was not allowed to teach that family system to outsiders. The Huo family wanted, as was the norm in Qing dynasty, to keep their "trade secrets" within the family. So, Huo Lao-Shi picked out various techniques and forms to teach the public at the Chin Woo (Jing Wu) Association classes. This system he called Lost Track Techniques (迷蹤藝).

As to what exactly his selection criteria was; nobody knows. My suspicion is that the techniques and forms he taught in public were the same as in his family boxing, but he left out two key elements to Chinese martial arts fighting (again, as was the norm when Chinese martial arts were making the transition into modern times):

1. Hitting the weights to build basic strength, and...
2. Sparring with protective gear.

Approximately 10 years ago, I jokingly made the following comment to someone else...

Since Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo's widow, Bernice Chin Woo, signs her last name as Chin Woo; I guess we (Kung-Fu San Soo) get to claim that we are also "Chin Woo." You know, since everything (and the kitchen sink) is already included in Kung-Fu San Soo.

The person I told that to, laughed so hard, he about soiled himself. And no, it wasn't Robert@TMI (Robert Resann).

I always felt that to be the case, as the outside observer to this.

What effective system exists that doesn't condition the warrior first?

What effective system exists that doesn't condition or train the ATTRIBUTES or tools; i.e., types of strikes, kicks, etc., other than Chinese Martial Arts taught to outsiders?

I know a San Soo fight only takes a second or two... Rolling Eyes

Tombstones and focus mitts are your friends, and only fearful to the lazy. (I am too lazy to get into the sparring discussion.)

However, most seem enamoured with the step through punch; and rarely play with chokes, grapple both standing up and on the floor, position of disadvantage, sprawl, not to mention multiple strikes / kicks.

I am not sure anyone in Kung-Fu San Soo really cares, because it is easier not to train your kicks, etc., and it is easier to teach one lesson per belt, and then watch people workout.
