Jeff Cornelius, on his home page of his website wrote this introduction... http://www.sansoomichigan.com/

Quote:
To have a better understanding of San Soo, the art is loosely defined as a complete fighting art of "Empty Hand Combat!" It has been proven as a fighting combat art tested throughout history for the soul purpose of defending one's life, by offending an attacking adversary. The effectiveness of the art and lack of rule structure has inspired some to say it is a devastating Chinese fighting art that is second to none. In its purest form, it has been banned from sport competitions due to its aggressive style of fighting techniques. Trying to adapt Kung Fu San Soo to the current Mix Martial Arts rules and regulations will take away from the arsenal of techniques and pureness of the art as taught through the centuries. Jimmy H. Woo, did not feel that San Soo could be used to it's fullest potential in these environments or stand for the rules of sports art.

It is truly an art for combat and street fighting with the use of very offensive techniques. Kung Fu San Soo incorporates principles and concepts of leverages, throws, movement of fulcrums, physics, combinations, complementary techniques, proper breathing and psychology to create a powerful and most effective fighter. The individual student and practitioners are taught to respect life, the damage an experienced practitioner can inflict on ones life would be devastating. Jimmy H. Woo, is quoted, according to several sources as saying the art of "Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human character." If the time or need was to ever arise where you are unable to walk away, a San Soo fighter will attack and attack offensively.

"If a man attacks you, how do you know that man isn't trying to kill you?" Be offense to win; this psychology is at the core of Kung Fu San Soo.

Let's give a quick look see at what Jeff said...

To have a better understanding of San Soo, the art is loosely defined as a complete fighting art of "Empty Hand Combat!"

Actually Jimmy said that Karate meant empty hand. Not San Soo. Warriors used San Soo with weapons, as would any sensible warrior, in any time period in history.

It has been proven as a fighting combat art tested throughout history for the soul (as in “You got soul, my brotha!” no doubt) purpose of defending one's life, by offending an attacking adversary.

Maybe sole (as in “only”) is a more appropriate word?

And let’s not forget to “offend” our adversary… For example you could offend him by insulting him by saying… “You’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny!” Or with any statement that begins…
"Yo Momma…”

So if the “soul” purpose of San Soo is to defend yourself… er… if the "sole" purpose is to defend yourself, then using violently offensive techniques of combat is only one of multiple ways of defending yourself. For example, you could run away, for starters… Use San Soo principles to learn to run more efficiently… Or you could try and “reason” with the opponent (not my first choice, but a possibility under some circumstances)… or you could try and bluff the adversary (Would you believe that 300 ninja are descending on this very spot to defend me? Would you believe 50? How about a 10 year old with a wooden practice sword?)…. Or you could carry a firearm…

Would any of the above meet the definition of solely defending yourself? I think yes! So defending oneself by using offending techniques is neither a clear nor precise enough definition…

The effectiveness of the art and lack of rule structure has inspired some to say it is a devastating Chinese fighting art that is second to none. In its purest form, it has been banned from sport competitions due to its aggressive style of fighting techniques.

No it has not been banned by name… ANY martial art that use any techniques of biting, eye gouging, small joint manipulation, kicking while the opponent is down, and numerous other techniques are banned. By your definition, MANY martial arts are banned, also… Your statement makes it sound like San Soo is virtually alone because of how “bad” we are as fighters.

Trying to adapt Kung Fu San Soo to the current Mix ( you mean “Mixed” right?) Martial Arts rules and regulations will take away from the arsenal of techniques and pureness of the art as taught through the centuries. Jimmy H. Woo, did not feel that San Soo could be used to it's fullest potential in these environments or stand for the rules of sports art. (Okay, that is written clearly enough…)

It is truly an art for combat and street fighting with the use of very offensive techniques. Kung Fu San Soo incorporates principles and concepts of leverages, throws, movement of fulcrums (okay, I’m no physics major, but I believe that fulcrums DO NOT MOVE -- the lever may move on the fulcrum, but the fulcrum does not move…) physics, combinations, complementary techniques (no doubt a compliment such as...“My! Your chest and biceps look most manly today, young warrior opponent!), proper breathing and psychology to create a powerful and most effective fighter. The individual student and practitioners are taught to respect life, the damage an experienced practitioner can inflict on ones life would be devastating (Absolutley! Especially when you miss and strike yourself or slice or suffer a traumatic impact injury by hitting yourself with your own weapon! I think you meant to say "on someone else's life"...)

Jimmy H. Woo, is quoted, according to several sources as saying the art of "Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human character." If the time or need was to ever arise where you are unable to walk away, a San Soo fighter will attack and attack offensively.

"If a man attacks you, how do you know that man isn't trying to kill you?" Be offense (you mean “offensive,” or "use offense," right?) to win; this psychology is at the core of Kung Fu San Soo. (Actually you never explained “this psychology”… you said to use offensive techniques, but nothing about the psychology being “offense.”)

Anyway...

You know the old adage… “So simple, a 12 year old could do it…?”
Well, if you have a kid’s class, I’m sure you could trade lessons for one of your youngsters to help you with the website…

I give your Homepage introduction 1 and 1/2 stars (out of 5) for clear content and 3 and 1/2 stars for humor, inadvertant as it was...

Today, February 1, 2009, Jeff posted a rebuttal on his message board...
http://sansoomichigan.com/invisionBoard/forums/757/ShowThread.aspx#757

Jeff wrote:

Hey Jon thanks for the colorful insight and your opinion. In fact thanks for posting my web site on your forum Captain America or is it Steve Rogers? So far life is good, because now more people who view what you had written will visit my site, thanks again, I have gain more students because of the insight you had posted. Now when you have the opportunity stop by San Soo Michigan folks would like to meet you, especially my upper belts; Yes I may not be the best of writers but I surely can teach, so come on down and test your San Soo skills as a San Soo practitioner, not the hide behind scenes of a key board bandit. We see you have an articulate way of expression, maybe it can also be expressed on the mat. Again thanks for the help. Cool By the way seeing you are the expert at this art and writing and have the time to rip why not write what about the philosophy of San Soo, adversaries and MMA since you know it all. I put the bare essential down as I know it; Leave my kids out of your posting they like the site, I like the site, friends, students and my teacher likes the site. Now read this very carefully for I do not want any misunderstandings, go away for folks in the San Soo community think your are a butt head and you have a sickness, I have the cure.

First and foremost, I am not San Soo Sifu. And, yes, my name IS Steve Rogers. Actually if you paid attention, you would know I have been in North Dakota for almost a year now. That move happened after spending several years in Southern California. I joined TMI in 1998 after Robert started teaching at Pendleton, and after his previous wife died, I even lived at his home for about a year. I was given COPIES of all the TMI stuff and presto-chango, you see what I have done with some of the better stuff I got hold of, both on this message board and on YouTube. SSS (Jon Surritt) is a real good friend of Robert’s and a staunch ally of The Captain (moi)… But San Soo Sifu AIN’T me!

So I wrote the humorous review. Oh, and thank you for recognizing that I have an “articulate way of expression.” I know that I do, but thanks for giving voice to that fact on your message board…

Oh yeah… now that YOU have sent more people to MY forum to check out details of my review of your homepage… hey… you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours…

I only have one serious objection to the silliness you wrote to Jon (thinking he was me…) and that is the following…

“So far life is good, because now more people who view what you had written will visit my site, thanks again, I HAVE GAIN MORE STUDENTS BECAUSE OF THE INSIGHT YOU HAD POSTED.”

I posted that review about 4:30 pm (16:30) – in your local time. On a Saturday afternoon. You posted about 9:30 am (09:30) – this morning, which is a Sunday morning…

Your class schedule posted on your website states that you have class on Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm (noon).

So your class was finished about 4 and ½ hours before I posted, you are not open Sundays and you have gained how many new students in about 18 hours…

So my question to you is... just how many new students did you pick up during the last 18 hours that you were not open??!!

Liar liar, pants on fire!

PS
Thanks for giving me more humorous material to work with...

AND, the threat part you posted, that was priceless... thanks. If I was a late night comedian on TV, you'd be my Dan Quayle or my George Bush... honestly... thanks. I look forward to more of your Cornyisms.

With respect to your callow threats...

Do you remember in a couple of posts above where I mention that San Soo warriors would fight with weapons, as would all real Warriors, given an opportunity to be armed?

One thing (among many) that Robert@TMI ingrained into us down at Camp Pendleton was the use of weapons of opportunity in addition to military issue... depending on the circumstances. Well I RARELY go out in public without some type of weapon. I may be a fairly big and strong guy, but I'm getting up there in years, and almost any type of weapon makes life easier in a life and death struggle... been there, done that, Sir!

Just how many folks have your top belts terminated, Sir? Playing for keeps, Sir Jeff, is not an internet exercise. Were we to actually meet, I doubt that you would recognize me, and I would simply drop you a line later, that it was pleasant to meet you and learn about your school, and that if I really was interested in physically harming you, which I am not, since you clearly are not a worthy opponent to risk my life for, I could have cold-cocked you as we spoke about the art we love, San Soo.

Instead, I will use ONLY MY FORUM (since I NEVER post elsewhere!!!) to engage in a battle of wits with you or others who either earn respect, or deserve to be the butt of humorous (and reasoned) posts. (Unless you actually physically tried to attack me, then all bets are off... and I am almost always armed... that silly warrior thing I mentioned earlier...)

As my friend Robert@TMI posted about a decade ago on the old TMI Forum... and I quote "In the battle of wits, Sir, you are unarmed!"

--------------------------------------------------------

I, nor San Soo Sifu, nor Robert@TMI have ever threatened anyone, as many have done to me, Jon, Robert, and other comrades of mine.

As you have just done.

I find it hilarious, since you do not know of what you speak.

You are too young to have experienced the jungles of Vietnam. Real hand to hand combat for a soldier (whatever branch of military) is one's worst nightmare come true.

You are safe from me... But a word to the not so wise (meaning you, Jeff)... Be careful who you threaten... There are some nasty folks out there, who will smile at you, appear not to be upset with you, but will follow you home late at night, or wait to ambush you later... another worst nightmare come true...

Been there, done that... and it IS/WAS scary...

But I'm still here... you imploring me to go away will not reopen my old scars from REAL encounters, young Jeff.

For those who had read the posting "People who have nothing better to do" has been delete. The post was written in poor taste and out of character. My apology to all; I for one who is the biggest advocate on play ground tactics, not stooping down to that level, I broke rule #1; taking the bad with the good which goes together. Jon I also apologies for the rude hang up yesterday evening for you seemed to be pretty sincere with what you had already said.

I haven't communicated with San Soo Sifu, so I will have to get the particulars later.

However, reading your post, you are apparently saying that in addition to your previous post "People who have nothing better to do", you were also "out of character" when you talked to Jon..."

I'm not convinced that is actually true, yet... but if you are being sincere, then that is a good thing. I will treat you as being sincere until you demonstrate otherwise.

Jeff, Jon ALWAYS says exactly what he means, whatever the topic.

"Welcome to San Soo Michigan and Chinses street fighting"

This is the scrolling banner at the top of the NEW San Soo Michigan website.

For an entertaining read, peruse the various pages at http://www.sansoomichigan.com/

------------------------------

My only comment is, er, uh... read it for yourself.

I do have a question for Jeff... You must have attended a school in the L.A. Unified School District , right?

The San Soo Michigan Forum is back in business...

You can check it out here... http://sansoomichigan.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=13.0

The first topic proposed by Ron Gatewood...

Ron Gatewood wrote:
Question?
Where and how should you look when you are about to defend yourself?
Although Jimmy never clearly stated the answer, he gave a couple of examples. My answer will be from knowing him, personal experience, how the brain works, private study and much thinking.
Jeff, you can only reply after you use spell check and allow at least two proof readers to make corrections. heh heh

Interesting question. But the part I liked was...

"Jeff, you can only reply after you use spell check and allow at least two proof readers to make corrections. heh heh"

Ron Gatewood must be in agreement with my Los Angeles Unified School District reference... Rolling Eyes

I found that on Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo's biography page on http://www.sansoomichigan.com/jimmy.htm

Why is it that Captain America and myself are the only ones who care enough about Mr. Jeffrey P. Cornelius, Sr. enough to correct him?

Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo
(Lo Si Fu Chin Siu Dek; Sei-yap or Toisanese)
(Lau Si Fu Chan Sau Zoek; Cantonese)
(Lao Shi Fu Chen Shou Jue; Mandarin)

His grandson James Paul King is SEVENTH (7th) generation.

Either Jeffrey P. Cornelius, Sr. no longer reads American San Soo forum (highly doubtful); or he hasn't had the chance yet to correct his mistake (certainly possible); or he just doesn't love Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo enough to correct his factually obvious, historical mistake (let's hope not).
