This post (video 3 of 6 in the series) by Jeff Frater shows his concept of "rotation" and "pivoting."
He says this is how boxers "do it."
Part of his motivation for posting this series was what he considers to be incorrect or at least inefficient instruction offered by Jack Sera. No, he doesn't name Jack explicitly, but he does make reference to an instructor at a seminar posted on YouTube, criticizing the specific stance advocated by Frater. And there is only one such video and I posted it on americansansoo YouTube.
Now Frater says that if anyone has a problem with what he says to contact him and he will welcome you to his facility or even come to you. But he implores the potential critic of him (Frater) not to jump on him with a keyboard on the internet. I guess he thinks that wouldn't be "manly."
Oh, I see... Sort of like criticizing Jack on YouTube, but not being "manly" enough to contact Jack himself.
Can you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E ???
And like the series of criticisms of (Joseph Accardo) - including making fun of his physical appearance, and his subsequent back and forth on that YouTube site with yours truly (in which he deleted his posts, because he was definitely out of his pay grade in that intellectual jousting match)... Nooooooo! That wasn't hypocritical when he implores the viewer not to come after HIM with a keyboard.
There's an old, old joke where a lady asks a guy if would like to "party." So the guy offers a woman 20 bucks. Indignant, the lady asks..."What kind of woman do you think I am??!!" To which the guy responds... "Madam, we've already established THAT, now we are only quibbling over the price."
Mr. Frater's has numerous posts over the years, and his now beseeching of us to not respond in kind... you are kidding me AGAIN!, Right??? We've already established his past behaviors online, now we are only quibbling over the price, in a manner of speaking.
Now, I actually commend Mr. Frater for spending so much time and effort in presenting his case about the "weaknesses" in San Soo as he sees it, and in advocating what he believes is correct. He spent A LOT of time on this project... and I am NOT being sarcastic here.
Nevertheless, my criticism is twofold. One... See the above and why I have no compunction against POSTING about Frater, instead of traveling from a damn cold North Dakota to the great weather of Southern California.
Secondly, I just flat out disagree with the twirling tube theory Frater advocates. That ain't what a knockout artist in boxing will do.
-----------------------------
To anyone... just go to YouTube and search for Mike Tyson and pick videos where he knocks out his opponents and neither his right cross nor his vicious left hook come from a twirling cylinder that looks like what Frater is showing. Mike is driving forward a little... to a lot. He is not using the "stationary" cylinder of "rotation" as taught by Frater.
(Not to mention, that I never saw Jimmy in a demo do it with the twirling tube technique. He generated driving power with a strong rolling shoulder rotation... yes... like Jack shows.)
But Mike Tyson was at least slightly effective in delivering power.
So watch "3 of 6" by Frater, then watch Tyson, then watch Jimmy.
The latter two don't look like "3 of 6" to me.

Captain,
You know I don't often disagree with you, but...
Jeff Frater DOES explicity name Jack Sera at the 0:34 second mark in the first video post of his six video series (1 of 6).

My bad, San Soo Sifu.
I only watched 3 of 6, when it first came on YouTube. For some reason it showed up on my YouTube (with my settings and preferences) before any of the other videos in that series from Frater.
I only glanced at a couple of the others. I couldn't force myself to watch the rest of them, in detail, after watching 3 of 6. Sometimes I give my little buddy, Robert@TMI a hard time about being "wordy and incoherent" (both on the old TMI Forum, and on the current shawneesansoo YouTube site. In the current context, I may have to reevaluate that criticism.
But as usual, in your usual meticulous paying of attention to things San Soo, you caught my error.
I stand corrected.
------------------
It would be so laborious, and boring to try to clarify the stuff that Jack teaches as opposed to the misconceptions expounded in 3 of 6 by Frater, that I basically just focused on an easy target... his hypocrisy... and the empirical evidence as offered by boxing videos of Tyson and demos of Jimmy.
At the moment, 16:23 (4:23 pm) on 10-14-2009, on the YouTube page of Frater, video 3 of 6, is one comment by "dapgachef."
I note the time and date, as I have no confidence that Frater will leave the comment up, but the simple one sentence response by dapgachef was right on the money...

I don't know that as a pivot. I know that as Bing Guy Ma = #7 basic 8. |
That simple observation actually cuts to the quick, and sums up the nonsense quite nicely. |
